Alperen Sengun Rockets have a legitimate chance of extension

Alperen Sengun hopes to sign a contract extension with the Houston Rockets before the October 21 deadline. Sengun is eligible for a contract worth up to $224 million over five seasons.

“We talked,” Sengun said. “I want to get the contract, and (the Rockets) are trying to negotiate with us and we’re trying to negotiate with them. So it’s been good. We’re going to make it work. We still have time, you know, and hopefully we can make it work.

According to a source who spoke to the Houston Chronicle, there is a “legitimate chance” that Sengun and the Rockets will reach an agreement on an extension. Sengun is making $5.4 million this season and would have a cap hit of $16.3 million next season if he doesn’t sign an extension and becomes a restricted free agent. Sengun is represented by agents Sean Kennedy and Bora Sancar.

In 63 games last season, Sengun averaged 21.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 32.5 minutes.
