Nigerian volleyball boss praises impact of annual tour after under-19 girls conquered Africa

The Chairman of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has announced that the annual beach volleyball tour launched under his leadership is yielding significant positive results.

The statement followed Nigeria’s victory at the 2024 African U19 Girls Beach Volleyball Championship in Morocco last Thursday.

Nimrod, who is also the Chairman of the Control Committee for the 2024 African U19 Boys Beach Volleyball Nations Championship, stressed the role of the tour in providing players with more playing time and better preparation for international competitions. “I am excited that Nigeria is reaping the benefits of the Nigeria Beach Volleyball Tour. Nigeria has a pool of players to choose from and that is why the Nigeria Beach Volleyball Commission has decided to invest in the beach tour,” he said.

The NVBF President encouraged state and private clubs in the country to support the growth of the sport by organizing mini tournaments and participating in the Beach Tour and President Cup. “This is the time for volleyball clubs that have natural beaches in their states to organize mini beach volleyball competitions, which will attract more children and corporate organizations to partner with them. The government cannot do it alone; that is why we encourage selfless individuals to support their volleyball clubs,” Nimrod stressed.

He cited several success stories as evidence of the tour’s impact. “Esther Mbah is a National Youth Games, President Beach Volleyball Cup and Nigeria Beach Tour Champion who rose through the ranks to become a U19 Beach Volleyball Champion and African Games Bronze Medalist. Pamela Bawa, who is only 15 years old, is also a Gold Medalist at the annual National Youth Games. Victor Eze, a U19 Boys Bronze Medalist, has consistently competed in the President and Beach Tour with Kada Stars. We have many young players from different clubs in the country who have actively participated in the beach volleyball tournaments,” Nimrod explained.

Promising an even more impressive event this year, Nimrod assured: “I want to assure you that this year’s edition of the Beach Volleyball Tour will be bigger and better because of our ambassadors who represented Nigeria at the Olympic Qualifiers, the U19 Boys and Girls African Nations Championships have shown that our performance is not a fluke.”

The president’s remarks reflect the NVBF’s commitment to fostering the development of beach volleyball in Nigeria. The annual tour is used to build a solid talent pipeline and raise the profile of the sport both nationally and internationally.
