Preseason awards and watchlist tracker

Preseason watchlists for national college football awards have been pouring in for the 2024 season, and Alabama football will be high on the agenda. Here’s a look at every national award an Alabama player has earned on the watchlist:

Walter Camp Preseason All-American Teams: OL Tyler Booker, K Graham Nicholson, more

Known as college football’s oldest All-America team, Walter Camp is one of five organizations selected by the NCAA to determine consensus and unanimous All-Americans. Walter Camp named four Alabama players to its 2024 Preseason All-American teams, which were announced Monday.

Junior offensive lineman Tyler Booker and transfer kicker Graham Nicholson earned First Team honors for the Crimson Tide. Nicholson, who transferred from Miami, Ohio, to Alabama, sees himself on the First Team for the second straight year. He also won the Lou Groza Award in 2023.

Offensive lineman Parker Brailsford, a transfer from Washington, and punter James Burnip also earned spots on the second team. Brailsford is expected to be Alabama’s starting center in August, while Burnip prepares for his fourth season as the Crimson Tide’s starting punter. Burnip ranked second in the SEC with 47.6 yards per punt last season and was also a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, given to college football’s best punter.

Lott Impact Trophy Watchlist: LB Deonate Lawson, S Malachi Moore

Two Alabama players were selected last month to be named to the 42-man 2024 Lott IMPACT Trophy. Announced by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, the Lott Impact Trophy is the only major college football award that recognizes character, with IMPACT standing for integrity, maturity, achievement, academic achievement, community and tenacity.

Linebacker Deonate Lawson was named to the list along with safety Malachi Moore. Lawson, a redshirt junior, was Alabama’s second-leading tackler in 2023 with 67 tackles, 5.5 for loss and three sacks and was also a semifinalist for the Butkus Award. It’s Moore’s second consecutive runner-up to be named to the Lott watch list. The graduate student was named a permanent team captain for the Crimson Tide in 2023.
