Sixteen-year-old nephews break Barça B scoring record

Sixteen-year-old nephews break Barça B scoring record

Cousins Toni and Guille Fernández became the youngest ever goalscorers for Barcelona Atlètic, both scoring in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Ourense in the Spanish third division.

There were only four minutes between the two goals. Toni, the youngest of the cousins, broke the record previously held by Bojan Krkic by scoring in the 41st minute at the age of 16 years, one month and 23 days.

Guille scored just before half-time to become the second-youngest goalscorer for Barça’s reserves at the age of 16 years, two months and 21 days.

There is just one month’s age difference between the two cousins, who were both born in 2008 and have both already caught the attention of new Barça coach Hansi Flick.

Guille, an attacking midfielder, played in all three of the first-team’s pre-season games in the United States this summer against Manchester City, Real Madrid and AC Milan, while forward Toni came off the bench in two of the three games.

According to Barça, Bojan, Marc Bernal and Lionel Messi are the top five youngest goalscorers for the B team, although some argue that Haruna Babangida should also be in the selection.

Former Nigerian winger Babangida played for Barça Atlètic in the 1990s and while there is no doubt that Toni is the youngest goalscorer, it has been suggested that Babangida was younger than Guille when he first scored.
