WNCC softball places four players on the OWH All-Midlands Team

The Western Nebraska Community College softball team has added four players to the Omaha World Herald All-Midlands JUCO softball team, which was announced earlier this month.

The Cougars were selected to the first team twice and nominated twice for honorable mention to the All-Midlands JCUO team.

Katelynn Czerpak, from Aurora, Colorado, earned a First Team nomination with her play in the outfield. Czerpak hit .405 with 44 stolen bases a year ago. She also had three doubles with 36 runs scored.

Jenika Fuentes, a freshman from Sweetwater, Texas, earned First Team honors as a utility player. Fuentes played both third base and pitcher for the Cougars. Fuentes batted .362 on the season with six home runs, 11 doubles, 26 RBIs and 28 runs scored. She also played in 21 games in the circle with a 7-9 record and 6.10 ERA with 50 strikeouts. She led the team in innings pitched with 103.1.

Team honorable mentions went to both freshmen: Mykah Klumpp of Wichita, Kansas, and Bailey Legere of Manitou Springs, Colorado.

Klump was an outfielder with a .351 batting average with three home runs, 8 doubles, 16 runs scored and 21 RBIs. Legere was an infielder who had a .337 batting average with six home runs, 22 runs scored, 32 RBIs and 11 doubles.

McCook Community College had the most players on the First Team with six. They include pitchers Ella Covill-Marter and Sadie Kahl; catcher Laila Guitierrez, first baseman Lexi Knapp; shortstop Andie Suhai; and outfielder Anne Elliott.

Central Community College-Columbus had three First Team members, including the softball team captain in third baseman McKinna Moats. Central also had Andrea Palma and Addison Kudron both pitching.

Southeast had three selections to the First Team in pitcher Kendyl Schmitz, second baseman Emma Jenson and design player Ella Culhane. Northeast had one selection in outfielder Malika Monroe.

Brylee Dean, a Gering graduate and player for McCook Community College, also received honorable mention on the All-Midlands JUCO team.
